Membership Breaks Another Record
Thank you and
congratulations to all adult leagues and all adult hockey players around
the country - you have set another record for membership in USA Hockey by
breaking last seasons record high membership
number of 103,533 with this years current membership number of
114,000. The adult department will continue to provide the membership
benefits and customer service that adult leagues ask for and adult players
want. The Sharks Ice at San Jose Adult League (San Jose, CA) leads the way with over 3,000
adult players. Sharks Ice is followed by the Schwans
Super Rink NSC (Blaine, MN) with over 2,000 adult
players. Rounding out the Top 5 with over 1,500 players are the Adult
Hockey Association (Minneapolis, MN), Dr Pepper StarCenter
Sr. League (Dallas, TX), and the Greater Seattle Hockey
League (Seattle, WA). The always popular Top
10 returns with some changes ads request by you. We now have the Top
20 adult leagues in the country listed below as of May 29, 2008

to the 2008 Adult Awards Winners
The 2007-2008 Adult Ironman of the Year and Member of the Year award
winners have been selected. Congratulations to both Tom Hendrix and
Rich Wasilewski respectively. Rich Wasilewski has been involved in hockey in many
capacities since 1986. He has been a rink owner of the SunBlades Ice Arena, he created the SunCoast
Youth Hockey now known as the Tampa Bay Jr. Lightning, he
has served on the adult council since 1997 and the fist STAR Board of
Directors in 2000. Rich has been an NHL off-ice official since 1992
and helped create the SunBlades Adult Hockey
League and the Adult Florida State Travel Hockey Program. Tom
Hendrix has been involved as a player, coach, administrator and rink
owner. Tom has played hockey for the last 50 years from a youth
players in up-state New York to a current adult player in Maryland. Tom is part owner of the
Gardens Ice House, which is the 13th largest adult hockey league in the United States. He has been instrumental
in helping adult hockey flourish in the state of Maryland for all ages including the 50
and 60 & over divisions. Most recently, Tom has taken a very
active role with adult hockey in the Potomac Valley Amateur Hockey
Association.
Created in
2005, the USAdult Ironman
Award is presented annually to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of
an American-born adult ice hockey player. The criteria for the award, may also include performance during the current
or previous playing season. Created in 2005, the USAdult
Member Award was established to recognize an individual who has made
outstanding contributions to USA Hockey’s Adult Program during many years
of service to the ice hockey community as an adult player and/or volunteer.
67 USA Hockey Adult Classic Champions
Congratulations to
all 67 Labatt Blue USA Hockey Adult Classic
Champions. A total of 16 classics took place around the country this
season from Alaska to Florida. the
2008-2009 adult classics will be announced shortly after the 2008 USA
Hockey Annual Congress and in the July issue of the Adult Ice Hockey Email
Newsletter. As a benefit of membership the adult ice hockey council
has conducted classic recreational events in destination locations
throughout the season. All classics feature multiple options for
divisions based on skill level, age and gender - these events have always
included women's divisions where there is interest. These events are a round robin format with a three game
guarantee and includes commemorative co-branded hats for all
participants, post game refreshments and great prizes from Labatt USA. For results and

I wanted to send a
follow-up thank you for all your efforts in organizing and supporting this years Labatt Blue USA
Hockey Classic at the Factory. You guys make it fun to host the event
and the excellent organization and follow through makes it a pleasure to
work with you. We have some new management staff this year that have
been around rinks for many years, but have never hosted a USA Hockey Labatt event. They commented that they wished all
tournaments they have been involved with over the years had functioned like
this one. Again, thanks for all your many hours and efforts and we
look forward to an even bigger event next year.
