VALLEY ICE CENTER SKATING SCHOOL PROGRAMS

 

 
 

 


Adults (AGES 16 & OVER)

This class is open for the beginner skater or for the more advanced adult. Learn forward and backward skating, edges, spins and jumps.

 

Tots (AGES 2-6)

This class is for the beginner skater. Students will learn marching, dips, swizzles, proper way to fall and get up, games and more.

 

Pre-Alpha (AGES 6 & OVER)       

These classes are for skaters who have never                been on ice skates before or for those who have not had formal lessons. Students will learn basic forward and backward skating, swizzles, backward wiggles and snowplow stops.

 

Alpha/ Beta

Controlled forward stroking, forward & backward crossovers, one foot snowplow stops, right and left t-stops are required to pass to the next level.

 

Gamma/Delta

Only students who have passed the Beta level, or have the equivalent skating ability may enroll in this class. Forward outside and inside three turns, mohawk, hockey stops, forward edges, lunges, shoot the ducks, and bunny hops are maneuvers required to pass to the next level.

 

Power Low

This class is designed for Beta, Gamma/Delta skaters. Skaters must be able to do crossovers forwards and backwards. Develop strength, power, and agility in your skating.

 

Advanced Power

Must have Freestyle 1 and above.  Skaters should have strong turns and edges.

 

FREESTYLE 1-10

Freestyle elements will be taught in this each classed depending on the level of class along with artistic maneuvers that compliment these elements.

Double Jump

This class will focus on teaching the correct technique to successful complete double jumps. You must have an axel or above to join.

 

Ballet on ice

This special class is designed for skaters who have passed Gamma/Delta level and above.  The skater will be taught technique of classical ballet to enhance the line of the skater.

Ballet off-ice (ages 6 and up)

These classes are open to all levels. Come and perfect your body line and extensions, plus strengthen your muscles.

 

Off Ice Training (All Ages)

Focus on Jumps. Spins, Strength, Balance, Cardio, Stamina and overall Body Awareness

 

 

 

 

2/24/2010 Figures Class (must be passed Delta)

Cover the basic school figures.  Learn edge control, flow and body isolation and spatial awareness.

 

Theater On Ice (low level)

This provides a team atmosphere where skaters of various ages and skill levels work together to portray their story. We strive to improve the theatrical skills and the quality of the individual skaters as well as provide an opportunity where skaters can compete nationally.

Advanced Spin

This class is designed for skaters who have passed F.S.3 & above.  Skaters will be taught lay backs, Flying Camels, Flying Sit, Back Camel, Back Sit and more!  Spins of greater difficulty will also be taught in this class.

 

Edge Class

Skaters will learn to derive power from your edges!!!

 

Intro to Ice Dancing

Skaters will work on patterns and footwork used in Ice Dancing.  Skaters must be at the Freestyle level.

 

Beginning Hockey

This class is for skaters who have never been on ice skates before or for those who have not had formal lessons. Students will learn basic forward and backward skating, swizzles, backward wiggles and snowplow stops.

Skaters will be introduced to pucks and sticks.  Proper hold and use of the stick, skating with the puck, and how to control it will be taught.  **EQUIPMENT REQUIRED**

 

Advanced Hockey

This is an hour long class designed for to teach crossovers, hockey stride, quick turns and backward skating. Learning the basics of the game, passing, shooting, and different stick handling moves are taught.  This class is run in conjunction with the In-House Hockey Program for extra practice, but is separate in price.  This level is our catalyst for moving into the In-House Hockey Program. *EQUIPMENT REQUIRED*

 

Special Needs Hockey

A class designed to teach ice hockey to children and young adults, with special needs.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn and play this exciting sport in a safe and supportive environment.

-          Excellent coaches and high coach/skater ratio!

-          Ability to skate is an asset but is NOT required.

-          Boy and girls, all ages welcome.

 

**EQUIPMENT REQUIRED**

Everyone is required to have a helmet with a cage, stick, gloves, elbow, and shin pads.  Hockey equipment is available at the skate counter for players and goalies to use during class. All equipment MUST be returned after each class. Limited availability.
