Skating School Programs

PARENT & ME (AGES 2-6) - This class is designed for the 2-6 year old skater that will not skate by themselves. A parent or older relative may join the class with the student. The goal for this class is to get the child to gain confidence on the ice and skate alone.

TOTS 2-3 (AGES 3-6) - This class is for the more advanced tot. Forward and backward skating, snowplow stops, and spins will be taught.

PRE-ALPHA (AGES 6 & OVER) - These classes are for skaters who have never been on ice skates before or for those who have not had formal lessons. Students will learn basic forward and backward skating, swizzles, backward wiggles and snowplow stops.

ALPHA - Controlled forward stroking, forward crossovers, one foot snowplow stops are required to pass to the next level.

BETA - Controlled backward skating, backward crossovers, right and left t-stops are required to pass to the next level.

GAMMA/DELTA - Only students who have passed the Beta level, or have the equivalent skating ability may enroll in this class. Forward outside and inside three turns, mohawks, hockey stops, forward edges, lunges, shoot the ducks, and bunny hops are maneuvers required to pass to the next level.

POWER LOW - This class is designed for Beta, Gamma/Delta skaters.  Must be able to do crossovers forwards and backwards.  Develop strength, power, and agility in your skating.

POWER - This class is designed for both hockey AND freestyle skaters. Must be able to do crossovers forwards and backwards. Develop strength, power, and agility in your skating.

FREESTYLE - There are ten freestyle levels in the Ice Skating Institute program with varying of difficulty in coach level. Various jumps, spins, footwork and artistic maneuvers are taught in this class.

JUMP - This class is designed for the Freestyle 1 and above skater. Skaters will wok on all jumps. Skaters will be able to use the jump harness.

HOCKEY 1 & 2 (1 hour long) - This class is a 1 hour combined class.  The Hockey 1 section is designed for the young skater who has completed the pre-alpha/tot class in hockey skates, and wishes to continue on to the hockey program.  Crossovers, stops, hockey strides, quick turns, and backward skating will be introduced -- No sticks, no pucks in the first 30 minutes.

The Hockey 2 section,  skaters will be introduced to pucks and sticks during the last 30 minutes.  Proper hold and use of the stick, skating with the pucks and sticks, skating with the puck, and how to control it will be taught. * EQUIPMENT REQUIRED -- Both Classes*

HOCKEY 3 (1 hour long) - For skaters who have finished Hockey 1 & 2.  At this level, skaters learn the basics of the game. Passing, shooting, and different stick handling moves are taught.  This class is run in conjunction with the In-House Hockey program for extra practice, but is separate in price.  This level is our catalyst for moving players into the In-House Program.  *EQUIPMENT REQUIRED*

*EQUIPMENT REQUIRED - Helmet with cage, stick, gloves, elbow and shin pads. Hockey equipment is available at the skate counter for players and goalies to use during class. All equipment MUST be returned after EACH class. Limited availability.
